What a wonderful surprise! We were traveling and decided to stop here based on all of the positive reviews. We were not disappointed! A very well dressed man seated us and our server was extremely friendly and efficient. The bus boys were amaizng to watch because they cleared the tables so quickly! My breakfast was under $10 total. I had the apple and cheddar omlet which came with 2 pancakes and another side (fruit in my case). The omlet was 5 eggs so it was huge and contained fresh cinnamon apples - these were not from a can - and then topped with a slice of sharp cheddar. The pancakes were also huge and very light and fluffy. I'm giving this 5 stars because there wasn't anything that would've made my experience better!

Oh my effin god, this place rocked! I stopped in for breakfast with a bunch of friends on our way back home from Dark Lord Day (see Three Flyods) and we ordered a ton of food. I think we made a pretty good dent in the menu since we all ordered something different and the table was basically filled to maximum capacity once all the food was delivered. Everything that I tried was really tasty (pancakes, crepes, grits, biscuits, omelets, hash browns etc.) This was breakfast at its best. Oh and it was really cheap and the waitress was the best and she separated the checks for us which seems to put most waitresses out.

Immediate seating as they move this place fast. Their food is plentiful and very good. I especially like the service. Everyone is nice, you are immediately greeted and there are plenty of servers so you do not have to wait. Truly a great location. If you are in the area or driving through, skip the "national chains" and come to Sophias. You will be glad you did.

Big... huge omelettes. Service is always on point, with friendly wait staff and hostesses. The only thing that is lacking: the food does not have a big "flavor" to it. Its kind of boring on the palate. If you looking for more flavor - try the Country Kitchen on M139. Grease annnnd flavor. ps. I only have done breakfast here, never had anything else. I live in the area, and I frequent the spot. It is very good for the price.

We came here after reading the reviews on Yelp. They all sing the praises of breakfast, but we were feeling in more of a lunch mood. We decided to take one for the team and try out the lunch menu. Everything was fine - the BLT club was tasty and came with an abundance of pretty decent fries. My girlfriend had the chicken salad panini and it was large and filling. It was nice that all the lunch items came with soup or a salad and fries. Service was great, food was average. Can't bring myself to give it 4 stars, but I'd give it 3.5 if I could.

When you go to Sophia's, you can expect a classic, small town American breakfast diner food and atmosphere. The decor and furniture has not been updated for years, the service tends to be a bit quirky, and you'll read about the benefits of bee pollen supplements on your placemat, but that is part of the charm. You can easily take your grandmother there, but you'll go with anyone because the food is tasty and reasonably priced. I've had the chorizo omelette twice. It's super fluffy and comes with salsa, sour cream, and a generous portion of hash browns. I've been able to save the second half of my omelette for my next meal both times. The menu is huge. I'm not sure how the dinner items are, but the breakfast seem to be a celebration of all things that are both American and Breakfast-y. (Including waffles with a ridiculous amount of whipped cream, chocolate sauce and fruit.) There is nothing trendy about this place (no modern twists on the recipes, no talk of local/farm-to-table sourcing) but Sophia's definitely satisfies the need for a good breakfast.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, experts say, but few restaurants treat this essential component of food and dining experiences with respect it deserves. Runny eggs or haphazard omelette selections often compose the few lines dedicated to breakfast in non-specialty restaurants, a shame given the possibilities which can be achieved with fruits, cheese, and a few good eggs. Sophia's House of Pancakes is clearly a specialty house for breakfast, with a menu chockful of eggy wonders and pancake staples. Rather than the usual "western" and "Mediterranean" options, they have added several intriguing delicacies which are serious contenders to fill my belly on a stop here. I was perplexed for a full ten minutes between blackberry waffles and a Hawai'ian omelette, but ended up going up with the apple and cheese omelette on the basis of Yelp! reviewers being in a state of cinnamon spice nirvana upon consumption. Let's dress up the pros of a meal. Inexpensive prices, enormous portions, and old traditional favourites along with new pairings are serious advantages. Better still, side portions include healthy options; go for fruit and you might get a generous triangle of melon and a handful of fat strawberries, or whatever else is in season. The servers are attentive to substitutions to make your breakfast just right they go out of their way to accommodate for allergies or preferences. Pancakes may be their specialization, but Sophia's omelettes are vast, fluffy concoctions folded over on a plate without the slightest trace of grease. My fan of yolky sunlight floated under a patina of melted cheese, though I rather wish it might have been mixed in rather than used to glaze the omelette. Inside was the secret surprise, fat slices of cinnamon-soaked Michigan apples that blended were consistent with delightful bliss. I nibbled on the cheese and fluffy egg, and then devoured the apples with irresistible glee. Omnomnomnom., Soft, sweet apples that melt in your mouth. The savory blend of cheese, apples, and eggs hit the spot and made a long drive back into Chicago infinitely more bearable. Ah, Sophia, you've made a convert of me for under $10. Mrowr!

We had a blast at SHOP. We found it by googling (thanks Yelp!) and trying to find a place close to our hotel. My husband and I were in town for a wedding, and my immediate family drove out from Metro Detroit for brunch & birthdays. The host was a bit odd - my husband and I arrived first, said we'd have a party of 8, but that not everyone was here yet. The host came out (while my husband was in the restroom) looking for the party of 8. I reminded him that not everyone was here, and that they should be there in about 20 minutes. We had told them as a "heads up" since it was a large party. Anyway, after that kerfuffle, we were seated about 10 minutes after everyone got there (awesome!). Our server was amazing - polite, sweet, quick, all the things you want. My mother even said she might drive across the state just for the service! The food was super-yummy as well. I had a frittata - ate half of it there, and half of it later in the hotel (tastes good cold too!). They brought me jello for my birthday (lactose intolerant) and ice cream for the kiddo (3 yrs). We both got candles. Since it was birthday time, we were there for a while (don't worry, we ordered LOTS of food and tipped well!). We went a little later in the morning, so we didn't feel like we were taking up space (there wasn't much of a line when we left). Definitely worth going back to when we're around!

I can't believe my fiancé asked if I wanted to go to IHOP. Mind you, IHOP does it's thang and does it just fine, but I wouldn't pass up a chance at a Sophia's style breakfast in a million. Stacks of cakes and eggs, pancake syrup (sugar free or regular), and tons of good coffeeeee! I might have left my heart in Michigan at Sophia's pancake house, this place rules for fast loads of good breakfast food.
(5)Al B.
Had an omelet today. Large portions very good. Always busy but you get seated quickly. Manager / Owner always seem to be there overseeing things. Waitresses quick to ask if you need anything. Great experience.

Best breakfast in town I drive 20 miles to eat here and love it every time !
(4)David G.
Friendly service and excellent food. You might have a little wait but that's because it's popular!
(5)Dennis W.
Mmmmm pancakes....these pancakes are rich and tasty cake like concoctions. I had the eggs with corned beef hash with three pancakes.I opted for fresh fruit over hash browns. The pancakes were the best restaurant offering I've had. The fruit plate that was offered a a meal looked pretty good. A large plate with different melons and more. Reasonable prices. The building was a former Big Boy.
(4)Bradley G.
Great breakfast food, huge portions and very reasonable prices.

So delicious. Everything is reasonably priced and service is always fantastic. I cannot wait to go back the next time I'm in town.
(5)Shelley S.
Every time I go to this place (which is usually for breakfast) there's a line out the door. Great comfort food. Huge portions for the price.

My wife and I came out here for Sunday brunch. Service was great and very friendly. The food was tasty and the portions were generous. My wife ordered one egg scrambled with hash browns, bacon and a waffle. It looked more like three eggs and she liked the waffle a lot. I ordered the corned beef hash omelet (all whites) with hash browns and pancakes. Everything tasted good and they even had sugar-free syrup as another poster mentioned. My only knock was the hot sauce was pretty weak.
(4)Michael B.
Something is off here. Did ownership change? My experience did not match my fellow yelpers. The pancakes were dry, flavorless and odd. The eggs and hash-brown skillet was similarly flavorless. To be honest it reminded me of the eggs and hash-browns you get at a complimentary hotel breakfast (precisely what I was trying to avoid today). I'm sorry Sophia's, it was bad.
(2)Sharon B.
Ask for Christina, uber helpful waitress, indulge in blissful breakfast, and waddle to the car! Gyro, egg, feta, onion over potatoes with over easy egg topper. Sausage gravy, eggs, biscuits, hashbrowns, melt in your mouth, perfectly peppered gravy. Aaaahhhhh!
(5)James A.
Breakfast was all right nothing exceptional. Ordered the smoked sausage, normally in other restaurants you get a whole sausage. Received four pieces of sausage maybe 3/4 inch long. So received a half a sausage. Ask for onions in my hash browns, and the waitress said there was an extra charge, I guess I should have ask how much. Even though I don't believe they should charge for this, other restaurants have charged $.35 - $.50 which is acceptable and this is what I expected. On receiving the bill we were charge $1.70 each for a total of $3.40 for few onions pieces in the hash browns. They need to make a profit, however, I think this is totally out of line. All the times that I've been here; the staff has been friendly and grateful! It's an awesome sight of team work when this place is busy, it runs like clock work! The menu is extensive and well prepared.

Really cute American diner. A very vast menu with heaps to pick from, very reasonable prices, and massive dishes. Our food was out in less than 10 minutes. We had Victoria as our waitress and she was extremely nice and attentive. Highly recommend this place! :)

By far my favorite restaurant when we make our way back to the Benton Harbor/St Joe area for breakfast. Low prices, lots of food, good old fashioned stick to your ribs food. Love this place.

Rude grumpy manager...older Greek guy. 5 stars anyway! Otherwise, good breakfast food, great price, nice service. Our waitresses are always sweet and fast. They were packed last visit yet they hustled and you'd never know the were at capacity.

Good food plenty of choices. Love the crepes here they are made well and good choice instead of eggs. My husband had the gyro's here and meat was good just a little thick for us. But the flavor was good. Portion size is good won't go home hungry thats for sure. Service was also good

A large group of us came here today for some good breakfast. It is very convenient especially after partying hard in Saguatak. We had a large group of 15 people. Technically, it took them longer to seat us than usual due to the large size. Anyhow, we finally sat down after waiting for 20 minutes. Our waitress was really nice. She took down half the orders on one table and then half the other. I can't believe she even issued separate checks to everyone. When our food came, I was amazed by the ample portions they give you. I was barely able to eat half of my food. It was still pretty good. I ordered a typical country fried steak because it looked like a place where they would serve that well. I have to say that the service was excellent despite the large crowd.
(4)Tiff B.
While I liked my frenchtoast the customer service was the worst I had experienced in a long time. Service took forever. The manager was disinterested and turned his back to me and ignored me when I was trying to express my dissapointment. He instead carried on a conversation with an employee or contractor. Employees looked on apologetically. One told me in a side conversation I'm sorry I don't know why he does that. Well, they will never get another dime from me.

Excellent stop for breakfast right off the highway. Fluffy omelets and great blackberry pancakes. Huge portions!
(4)Jonathan H.
It's always great to find a place like this when on a vacation. Family owned, and good food. If you're from Chicago, it's like a Michigan version of Mitchell's. A giant menu that serves breakfast and lunch. Didn't see if they were open for dinner. A good selection of breakfast foods that are normal America fare. Kid friendly.
(5)Don Z.
Good selection of breakfast items. The portions were insane! I think that was a 5 egg omelet. The prices were pretty reasonable considering the amount of food you get. Everything we ordered was delicious. Unfortunately, breakfast food is often not very good as leftovers, so we "wasted" a lot. Coming from Illinois it has been a couple of years since we had to deal with smoking in a restaurant. On our visit to Sophia's they sat us in the "non-smoking" section that was literally 5 feet from 4 smokers in full blaze. The smoke certainly did not respect the invisible line between sections. Sophia's was very busy but our request for a more non-smoking table was accommodated eventually. In the end we enjoyed our giant and tasty breakfast. I would go back after the smoking ban takes effect in Michigan.

I LOVE sophia's house of pancakes! On my last trip, the waitress suggested that I get my biscuits grilled. I've been going there for a few years now, and just barely learned that last year! I love their chicken fried steak breakfast, and I always get it with the gravy on the side since I hate it when my food gets soggy. Do yourself a favor the next time you order biscuits and get them grilled! P.S. Portions are very large, so come hungry.
(4)Swed S.
Ridiculously busy on weekend mornings. The waitress messed up our order twice and we were charged almost twice the price for an egg white only omelet without being told before hand. Mabye I was there on an off day, but my experience was nothing special. Might as well save time and money and go to Denny's.

We were here for a high school graduation, we are from out of state and stopped here because it said homemade breakfast. It was a great breakfast! We got tons of food and the wait staff was awesome. Everyone was so polite and kept checking on us to make sure we were okay.

We went here for breakfast this morning as we are staying at a hotel nearby. One word sums up this place - WOWDELICIOUSAMAZING! (Ok, so I made it up...) But seriously the food was great the service was really good - although a bit slow to start off because, according to our waitress some (more than one) servers called in sick, but by the time we left the management had called in other staff and they had eight waitstaff on the floor. On to the food - my wife is particular about her eggs, they were cooked perfectly as were my scrambled eggs. Now, on to the stars - the pancakes and their homemade biscuits. The pancakes were light and fluffy and had a great flavor. The biscuits were (to use my made up word, WOWDELICIOUSAMAZING. They split them in back and griddle-toast them to get just that 'extra bit of caramelization'. We definitely will be back here when we stay in the area!
(5)Michael B.
Absolutely terrible service. Took over an hour for my food to come out. The owner refused to recognize there was any problem, then proceeded to make a scene and tell us to go to IHOP! Completely uncalled for. I have never been treated worse by a restaurant. The owner needs to realize that there are other breakfast restaurants, better breakfast joints. We will never return to this place.
(1)Douglas L.
Friendly, genuine service, very good food and prices, with local flavor. Wish I could drive through this corner of Michigan more just for the breakfast.
(5)Sarah E.
I'll start by what was good - the service. Our waitress, Donna, was very attentive and nice. The food was also good. Our party of 5 enjoyed eggs, hash browns, toast, etc (typical breakfast fare). Now for what wasn't good - the attitude of the owner/manager. Trouble started right off the bat. The waitress began by introducing herself and asking what she could get us to drink but the owner walked right up and interrupted her sending her off with some sort of instructions in the back. He then turned and walked away himself. I was flabbergasted by his rudeness! When I later mentioned to him that I didn't appreciate his attitude he replied that he was just trying to run a business. Well, he's going to run himself right out of business if he keeps this up. No apologies just continued attitude. And it wasn't just us - we observed him being rude to other customers and, most concerning, many of his other employees. It's a shame that this restaurant is being run by such an arrogant jerk. We will take our business elsewhere in the future as we have no desire to line his fat pockets.

The worst breakfast I've had French toast was so overlooked Bacon was the ready bacon
